The above link provides a calendar of special music events being offered at St. Mark's through Spring 2008.

New Choristers (novices) is the preparatory group for boys and girls—ages 7 through 13—who wish to enter Canterbury Choir. Christian formation, including a grasp of liturgy and tradition as understood in the Episcopal Church, is nurtured with¬in a context of Christian music. The choir uses its own curriculum which defines what is expected of all who aspire to become Canterbury Choir members. Children learn basic music theory and how to read music; about correct breathing and use of the vocal mechanism; and how to match pitches and sing intervals, process and recess, and to participate fully in the liturgy. Typically, a group comprises two to four members, and each child progresses at his or her own pace. The curriculum follows the “Voice for Life” model of the Royal School of Church Music.

Canterbury Choir comprises boys and girls grades 1–6, and leads the music for the 10 a.m. Holy Eucharist on the first Sunday of each month, September to May. The children sing anthems, hymns, descants, and Anglican chants. The Choir begins its fall season with choir camp on Labor Day weekend. Each spring, the choir travels to Cleveland or Cincinnati, to visit museums and other points of interest, and every three years it makes a pilgrimage to Washington National Cathedral, with visits to the National Gallery and other sites in the capital. Potluck dinners are scheduled in fall and spring, which offer an opportunity for fellowship with parents, choristers, and the choirmaster. Wednesdays, 4:30–5:30.

St. Mark's Choir sings for the principal Holy Eucharist each Sunday from September to June. Repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the present day. The choir presents several choral evensongs each season, in addition to a service of Advent Lessons and Carols, the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday liturgies, and the Great Vigil of Easter. The choir welcomes adults and high school age singers who are able to make a firm commitment of time on Thursdays and Sundays. The Choir has sung at Washington National Cathedral and at St. Thomas Church, New York City. Thursdays, 7:30–9:15.

The Music Program is directed by Gary L. Garber, Organist/Choirmaster. Michael Murray is assistant organist. Persons interested in participating should contact the music office at 486-9452, ext. 16.
